# Editing your images

## In this article, you’ll learn how to edit your images, including how the editor works, how to open it, and the everyday changes you can make in Basic mode.

Gleanin’s image editor is where you change how your designs look, for the images in your Speaker and Exhibitor Asset hubs and the personalised images in your attendee campaigns.

### **How image editing works**

An asset made from a template is a set of designs. In a Speaker Asset hub, for example, a set can hold a design for a speaker on their own and designs for sessions with two, three or more speakers. Each speaker’s image is made from the design that fits them.

- The set view - changes every image in the set at once. Use it for colours, fonts, shared text, your logo and the background, and to hide or show whole designs.
- One image - changes that image only. Use it to move, resize and style elements, and in Advanced mode to add text, images and shapes.

An attendee campaign’s personalised asset is a single design, so it has no set view: you edit the one image.

The editor always opens in **Basic** mode, for everyday changes. Switch on **Advanced mode** for changes that restructure the design. Please see **Using Advanced mode**.

Every element on an image is either:

- **Fixed:** the same for everyone, such as your logo or event name
- **Personalisable:** each person fills it in, such as a photo or a quote

You’ll see a **Fixed** or **Personalisable** chip next to the element’s name, and a pencil icon in **Layers**: purple for personalisable, grey for fixed.

Note: An uploaded file or a video has no images to edit here.

### **Opening the editor**

**To open an existing speaker asset’s images, follow the steps below:**

1. Go to the **Event**
2. Under **Asset Hubs** on the left-hand side menu, click **Speaker** (or **Exhibitor**)
3. Click **Edit** (the pencil button) on the asset’s card
4. On the **Design** tab, click **Edit all images** to open the set view, or the pencil button (**Edit**) on a design to open that image

When you create a speaker or exhibitor asset, the **Design** step opens on the set view. Click the pencil button on a design to open that image.

**To open an attendee campaign’s image:**

1. Go to the **Event**
2. Click **Attendee Campaigns** on the left-hand side menu
3. Click your campaign. The **Assets** tab opens first
4. Click the pencil button (**Edit**) on the personalised asset

When you create an attendee campaign, the editor opens on **Design your asset**.

### **The editor’s layout**

When you open one image, you will see three parts:

- **Layers** (left): every element on the image, front to back, with a **Background** row at the bottom
- The image (middle): the design, with its size underneath and a toolbar under that
- The settings panel (right): the settings for what you’ve selected. With nothing selected, it says **Pick something to edit**

At the top of the page are the **Advanced mode** switch, **Discard** and **Save**. If your asset has more than one design, you’ll also see a strip of every design under the image, and **Back to templates** at the top left to go back to the set view.

The image is shown with typical sample content, such as a sample speaker’s name and headshot.

### **Moving, resizing and lining up elements**

You can do all of this in Basic mode:

- **Select** an element by clicking it on the image or in **Layers**
- **Move** it by dragging. It snaps to the other elements and to the edges and centre of the image, with a guide line
- **Resize** it by dragging a corner. Hold **Shift** to keep its proportions
- **Select several** by holding **Shift** while you click, or by dragging a box around them. Line them up with **Align to each other**, or move them as one with **Align to canvas**

For one element, the **Position and Layout** section on the right has buttons to move it to an edge or the centre of the image, its **X** and **Y** position, and its **W** and **H** size. Click the padlock between W and H (**Keep proportions**) to keep them in step.

Note: You can rename an element by clicking its name at the top of the settings panel. The name is only for you.

### **Editing text**

Click a text element. Under **Typography**, you can change:

- **Font:** the list shows **Used in this template** first, then **Your fonts**, then our fonts
- **Weight:** only the weights the font has
- **Max font size:** the largest size the text is drawn at. Longer text shrinks to fit its box
- **Italic** and **Underline**
- **Text alignment:** left, centre or right, and top, middle or bottom of its box
- **Text colour**

Under **Content**, Basic mode shows what the text says, with a padlock. To change the words, click the padlock, or switch on **Advanced mode**.

Note: Some values, such as a font or colour, can come from the set. In Basic mode, they show only as a name with **Edit in set view**. Click it to change the value for every image. Please see **Changing every image at once in the set view**.

Note: If parts of the text have their own colour or weight, you will see that the text has mixed styling. Click **Edit in Advanced mode** to style each part.

### **Editing images and the background**

#### **Your logo and other fixed images**

1. Click the image
2. Under **Image**, drop in a new image or click to choose a file
3. Or click **Choose from library** to use an image from your media library

Under **Appearance**, you can change the **Border colour** and **Border width**. The image’s **Scaling**, **Shape** and **Corner radius** are shown read-only until you switch on **Advanced mode**.

Please keep in mind that if the image belongs to the set, such as a logo used on every design, replacing it here replaces it on every image that uses it.

A speaker’s headshot or an exhibitor’s logo comes from their own details, so you can move and style it, but not replace it here. Change the speaker’s or exhibitor’s details instead.

#### **The background**

1. Click **Background** at the bottom of **Layers**
2. Under **Background image**, drop in a new image or click to choose a file
3. Or click **Choose from library**

In attendee campaigns, you may also see presets under **Or start from a preset**.

Note: On a speaker or exhibitor asset, the background usually belongs to the set, so replacing it here replaces it on every design that uses it.

### **Editing shapes**

Click a rectangle, ellipse or line. Under **Appearance**, you can change:

- **Fill** (rectangles and ellipses)
- **Border colour** and **Border width**, or **Line colour** and **Line thickness** for a line
- **Corner radius** (rectangles)
- **Direction**: **Slopes down** or **Slopes up** (lines)

To add a new shape, please see **Using Advanced mode**.

### **Showing and hiding elements**

1. In **Layers**, click the eye next to the element
2. To show it again, click the eye again

A hidden element is dimmed in **Layers** and can’t be selected.

Note: Elements can be hidden, but not deleted.

Note: Some elements are shown or hidden on every image by the set. In Basic mode, their eye can’t be clicked. Change it in the set view, or switch on **Advanced mode**.

### **Undo, redo and reset**

In the toolbar under the image:

- **Undo:** undoes your last change
- **Redo:** redoes it
- **Reset to original:** takes the image back to how it was when you opened it

Moving to another image, or clicking **Discard**, starts a new history.

### **Saving your changes**

While you have unsaved changes, you will see **Unsaved changes** at the top.

- Click **Save** to keep them. You will see the message **Image saved.**, or **Saved for every image in this set.** when your changes include the set
- Click **Discard** to drop them
- When creating a speaker or exhibitor asset, click **Save design changes** to save and go to the next step
- On an attendee campaign, click **Done** to go back to the campaign. When creating a campaign, click **Continue**

If you move to another image, or leave the page, with unsaved changes, you will see *You have unsaved changes*. Click *Save and continue*, *Discard and continue* or *Cancel*.

Note: A new image you pick, such as a background or logo, waits for **Save** like any other change.

Please keep in mind that closing or reloading the browser tab doesn’t ask first, so please save before you close it.
